How to pick a YouTube giveaway winner your audience can verify

Picking a random comment is easy. Convincing several thousand people who were not in the room that it really was random is the part that goes wrong, and it is the part worth solving.

The short version

  1. Announce the seed firstPost the seed phrase before you draw — in the video description, a community post, or on stream. This is what makes the result checkable rather than trusted.
  2. Load the videoPaste the video URL so every comment and reply is in the pool.
  3. Set the rulesKeyword required, minimum word count, one entry per person, exclude spam and scams, exclude yourself, replies in or out.
  4. Draw and publishPick the winners, then download the proof file: every entrant in order, the winners marked, the seed and the entrant fingerprint.

The problem with “I picked one at random”

Scroll, stop, read a name. Nobody watching can tell that apart from choosing a friend, and a fair draw that looks rigged causes the same damage as a rigged one. The usual fixes — filming the scroll, using a wheel site — prove that something happened, not that the pool was everyone or that the result was not re-rolled until it looked right.

What makes a draw verifiable

Two things, and only two:

A published entrant list. Everyone can check they were in it, and that nobody was in it twice.

A seed announced in advance. The seed is a short phrase that drives the randomness. The same entrant list plus the same seed always produces the same winners — so anyone can re-run it and land on the same names. Announcing it before the draw is what removes the possibility of re-rolling: you committed to the outcome before you knew it.

ClearComments shows the seed on screen, lets you set it to anything you like, and includes it in the exported proof alongside a short fingerprint of the entrant list. If either changes, the winners change.

Rules that stop the usual gaming

  • One entry per person — entries are deduplicated by channel ID, not display name, so commenting ten times does not buy ten tickets and renaming an account changes nothing.
  • Exclude spam and scams — flagged comments never win. An account impersonating you is excluded outright regardless of the other settings.
  • Exclude the channel owner — you cannot win your own giveaway.
  • Keyword required — only comments containing a phrase enter. Note that entry words like “giveaway” are ignored by the spam filter here, so people who followed your instructions are not disqualified for it.
  • Minimum word count — filters out one-word entries if your rules asked for more.
  • Replies — off by default, since most rules say top-level comments only.

The proof file

The export is a CSV containing every entrant in draw order, the winners marked by position, the seed, the entrant fingerprint, and the time of the draw. Publish it as a link in the video description. Anyone who cares can check that they were in the list and that the count matches what you announced.

That is the whole mechanism. There is no server involved, no account, and no way for the result to depend on anything except the entrants and the seed you announced.
